The Spatial Framework promotes the opportunity to place Temple Meads railway station at the heart of an expanded transport interchange zone where people move seamlessly between transport modes. It recognises the need for a dispersed interchange zone that extends beyond the current bus and taxi facilities. The proposed layout of new buildings and outdoor spaces has been designed to facilitate onward journeys to the city and sub region and create a first class welcome.

New station platforms in the Midland (Digby Wyatt) Shed and Brunel’s Passenger Shed (see 1 on the plan)

A new street level entrance on the north side of the station (see 2 on the plan)

A new street level station ticket hall (see 3 on the plan)

A new street level entrance on the east side of the station (see 4 on the plan)

A new publically accessible street beneath the station (see 5 on the plan)

A new multi-storey station car park (see 6 on the plan)

A new MetroBus stop (see 7 on the plan)

A relocated Park and Ride stop (see 8 on the plan)

Buses relocated from Station Approach to The Friary (see 9 on the plan)

Bus stops relocated along Temple Gate closer to the crossing (see 10 on the plan)

Better links to existing bus hubs at Old Market and Redcliffe Hill (see 11 on the plan)

Reorganised taxi ranks (Station Approach) (see 12 on the plan)

Ferry services extended to a new stop at Totterdown Basin (see 13 on the plan)

Would you like to comment further about proposals on public transport and station improvements?

Some of these are short term improvements expected by 2020, for example the new MetroBus stop, relocated bus stops in Temple Gate (including the Park and Ride stop), and better links to the existing bus hubs in Old Market and Redcliffe Hill. Other proposals are longer terms aspirations for expanding and improving the station itself. The city council and Network Rail will be working in partnership to realise these shared aspirations, with a masterplan being commissioned once third party funding has been identified. There will be opportunities to comment on this masterplan in due course.
