The Spatial Framework promotes the creation of an employment-led, mixed-use quarter where people can live, work and spend their leisure time. It envisages the creation of 240,000sqm additional workspace, with new Paintworks-style work hubs catering for the growing creative industries sector. It also envisages the creation of 2000 new apartments (including family dwellings). Active ground floor uses (shops, cafes, restaurants) are promoted on key routes and spaces, with offices and apartments above. A new arena and an expanded and revitalised station will draw people to the area. ‘Meanwhile uses’ will be promoted within vacant buildings and spaces to temporarily enliven them until such time that they can be developed.
